NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- On Thursday, pest control experts and scientists gathered at the Agricultural Experiment Station in New Haven to discuss the growing number of bed bug infestations that have been occurring in the state.

Officials said that bed bugs can be found anywhere including nursing homes and hospitals.

Dr. Gale Ridge said, "It's about bringing together of minds, skills, knowledge and training so people can learn from one another about how to manage bed bugs."

There were many different presentations, from a landlords point of view, to the legal aspects, and even dogs who have been trained to sniff out infestations.

Charlie Mastroberti from Quest Canine said, "We go through extensive training. The dogs have been to school for about six months. We go down to get re-certified with the dogs so they are highly trained and very capable dogs."

Officials said that bed bugs can be difficult to get rid of and to hire an expert for help. They also said that with quick action, bed bugs can be eliminated.
